India vs Australia - 3RD ODI (october/31/2009)

vs

Venue: Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi

Toss: Australia elected to bat

Match Status: India beat Australia by 6 wickets

Player of the match: Yuvraj Singh

India complete another comprehensive victory over Australia as they chase down the target of 230 in 48.2 overs, completing a brilliant 6-wicket win. The home side now lead the series 2-1 with another 4 games to play. The conditions were quite hard for the batsmen as scoring runs became difficult in the second innings. India lost Sehwag (11) after a steady start and soon even Gambhir (6) departed. Tendulkar (32) hung around for a while and looked good before he was run out off a direct hit. The home side looked in trouble then but after that, it was all Yuvraj and Dhoni as both added 148 runs for the 4th wicket taking their side closer to victory. They made batting look ridiculously easy on a difficult track. Yuvraj departed for 78 but Dhoni (71*) remained unbeaten and sealed the victory along with Raina (9*). Indian skipper MS Dhoni is No.1 in the player rankings while Yuvraj Singh is No.2 and both of them did their job quite well today. Another interesting fact is that MS Dhoni has now remained unbeaten or rather has completed 22 successful run chases for India.

vs

Venue: Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground, Nagpur

Toss: Australia elected to field first

Player of the match: MS Dhoni

Match status: India beat Australia by 99 runs

Comprehensive win for the hosts by 99 runs! Chasing 355 in 50 overs, Australia never looked in the chase and India kept chipping at the wickets. Michael Hussey was the highest scorer for the visitors with 53 while for the hosts, Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/35. The series now stands levelled at 1-1 with 5 more matches to play. SKIPPER MAHENDRA SINGH DHONI IS NAMED THE MAN-OF-THE-MATCH FOR HIS 124 IN 107 BALLS. After a narrowing loss at Vadodara in the first ODI, India have bounced back superbly to level the series. They played a perfect match today, batting well, setting a huge target and then backing that up with an excellent bowling performance. They made full use of the momentum they got from the previous match into this one. Only negative point in this match for the hosts was the fielding which still did not look its best. As far as Australia are concerned, it was simply not their day. Their bowlers were sent all around the park and even in the batting, their batsmen never looked set to accelerate even with the requierd run-rate well above 8. India are looking in great confidence while the Australians would have to head back to the drawing board.

Toss: Australia elected to bat

Match status: Australia beat India by 4 runs

Player of the match: Michael Hussey

What a match! 580 runs in 100 overs for the loss of 16 wickets! After winning the toss and opting to bat, Australia scored a mammoth 292/8 in 50 overs. India stuttered at the start, losing openers Sehwag and Tendulkar early. The middle-order then resurrected the innings and kept India in the hunt with excellent partnerships. But then, Gambhir's wicket turned the match around as India lost 4/34 in 39 balls. And when things were shaping up to an easy Aussie win, out came two lower order batsmen, Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar, who added 84 in 57 balls for the eighth wicket! India almost pulled off a magnificent victory but Harbhajan Singh's wicket put out India's hopes as Australia crossed the line. Not much difference between the two teams in batting. The Aussie bowling was more disciplined than the Indian one. But the main thing which proved to be the main difference was the fielding. India gave away too many runs in the field and misfielded many times which was far lower on the Australian side. Also, running between the wickets for India was slack and Australia proved to be better. Excellent knock of 68 from Gambhir and valiant knocks from Harbhajan Singh(49) and Praveen Kumar(40 not out).

Man of the match: Brett Lee

Man of the series: Brett Lee

Series Status: New South Wales Blues won the Champions League Twenty20 2009

New South Wales Blues are the winners of the inaugural Champions League Twenty20 as they beat Trinidad and Tobago convincingly by 41 runs in the finals. Chasing 160, the Caribbean side could only manage 118 runs in 15.5 overs as they were bowled out by the Blues. Their openers departed early playing rash shots and then the wickets kept on falling at regular intervals which did not help the cause. Bravo, Ganga, Barath and Ramdin, all got the starts but did not take it further. A lot depended on Pollard (26) who also got going but a mis-hit sent him back. The Blues bowled pretty well with Lee leading the pack with a couple of early wickets. Clark ended with three while Smith and Hauritz bagged a couple. The Blues performed well as a unit through the tournament and the result went their way in the finals as well. Trinidad and Tobago will be quite disappointed as they were on a roll but just faltered on the final step. They did the hard work earlier but Brett Lee took the game away from them in the final overs of the first innings with his brilliant knock of 48 and came back to strike a couple of wickets with the ball.

For Cape Cobras, Duminy and Ontong picked up a wicket apiece but did not find any support from rest of the bowlers. vs

Venue: Delhi

Toss: New South Wales Blues elected to bat

Player of the match: David Warner

Match status: New South Wales Blues beat Victorian Bushrangers by 79 runs

New South Wales Blues have comfortably secured a place in the finals of the inaugural Champions League T20 beating the Victorian Bushrangers by a convincing 79-run margin. The Blues were right on the money from the start of the second innings with Hauritz striking twice in the second over, sending back both the Bushrangers openers. To make things worst, Lee struck once before Henriques came in to pick up a couple early-on. None of the Victorian batsmen then got going and they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals chasing that big total. Henriques picked up three wickets in all while Hauritz and Lee got a couple. Blues have been doing pretty well through the tournament and have once again played brilliantly to beat their home side quite easily. Victoria failed to fire as a unit which cost them this match.

vs

Venue: Delhi

Toss: Cape Cobras elected to field

Player of the match: Owais Shah

Match Status: Delhi Daredevils beat Cape Cobras by 30 runs

The Delhi Daredevils have won their last match of the tournament. With that, they break the Cape Cobras' unbeaten record in the Champions League. Defending a modest total of 114, Delhi won by 30 runs as the trecherous wicket at the Feroz Shah Kotla worked to their bowlers' advantage. Strangely, Delhi won without the services of Sehwag, Nehra and McGrath as their youngsters came good for them. Dilshan failed to fire with the bat but returned with commendable figures of 16-2 with the ball. Nannes was fast, furious and brilliant with figures of 19-3. Owais Shah is named Man of the Match for his steady knock of an unbeaten 39 runs. Unfortunately, this win does not do anything for Delhi's cause. They are still out of the tournament. However, this match has decided the two semi-final matches that will take place after the rest day tomorrow. The Cape Cobras will be happy they will be playing their semi-final at Hyderabad against Trinidad and Tobago. That match will take place on Thursday. It will be an all-Australian semi-final on Wednesday as New South Wales Blues take on Victorian Bushrangers.

Trinidad and Tobago vs Diamond Eagles - 19th match champions league T20 (october/18/2009)

vs

Venue: Hyderabad

Toss: Trinidad and Tobago elected to bat

Player of the match: Adrian Barath

Match Status: Trinidad and Tobago beat Diamond Eagles by 24 runs

Trinidad and Tobago have completed a comfortable 24 run victory over the Diamond Eagles after having reduced the Eagles to just 189 for 5 in their 20 overs. This victory not only guarantees Trinidad and Tobago of a spot in the semi-finals but also puts them on top of League A, ahead of New South Wales Blues. The Eagles got off to a flying start to their innings and were looking poised to make a fight out of this at the halfway mark. But once they lost the wicket of Rilee Rossouw who was going great guns, their run rate slowed down considerably and the required rate kept getting big on them. The Trinidad and Tobago bowlers did a commendable job to pull things back after they went for plenty of runs in the initial part of the innings. Adrian Barath was adjudged Man of the Match for his 63 off 41 balls which was instrumental in his team getting off to a flier.

Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Delhi Daredevils - 17th match champions league (october/17/2009)

vs

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and elected to field first. Royal Challengers Bangalore have won by 8 wickets. This means that Delhi Daredevils are out of the tournament. Bangalore were already eliminated after Cape Cobras defeated Victorian Bushrangers earlier in the day. Defending 139 was never going to be easy on a batting wicket and Delhi needed to do something spectacular to win. However, McGrath and Mishra were hit for plenty as Ross Taylor took over the mantle from JP Duminy to become the highest scorer of the tournament. He scored 65 in quick-time. Mishra went for 59 in his 4 overs. Dravid played the role of sheet anchor to perfection, while Kohli's cameo helped finished things off with 29 balls to spare. Ross Taylor has been named Man of the Match for his majestic knock of 65 runs from just 38 balls. And so it has been decided. Cape Cobras and Victorian Bushrangers, the two teams who faced off earlier today, become the first two teams to seal themselves a spot in the semi-finals of the Champions League. Delhi's match against the Cobras on Monday will be of no consequence. Player of the match was Ross Taylor.

It was a clinical performance by the side from down under, first restricting the Bangalore side to an average total of 127/6 and then chasing it down quite easily. All the top three batsmen for the Bushrangers got off to starts and took their side closer to the target but it was D.Hussey (31 off 15) in the end who finished it in style. However, they won't be celebrating as they failed to restrict the Victorian Bushrangers to less than 84, which means they don't qualify for the next round. On a pitch that was slow and low, Wayamba bowled extremely well and never allowed Victoria to settle into a rhythm. Brad Hodge was the lone warrior but even he could only manage 44 after coming in as opener and staying unbeaten till the end. Chanaka picked up two wickets but the addition of Herath made the big difference as he put the brakes on the scoring rate. Victorian Bushrangers will go into the next round, along with Delhi Daredevils, from this group. Sadly for Wayamba they will go home after a bittersweet tournament. Nannes picked up four wickets and McGrath surprised one and all with his pin-point accuracy on his return to the game after so many months. Jayawardena was the lone-warrior for his team with a fighting half century. Unfortunately no one stood with him to give the Daredevils a run for their money.
